2017 Inductees

BYRON HIGH SCHOOL INDUCTS FOUR TO THE HALL OF FAME

CLASS OF 2017

 The Byron School District is pleased to announce the Hall of Fame Class of 2017.  The HOF committee received and reviewed many nominations from friends, family, & community members. After deliberation and voting, the committee produced a list of 4 inductees. This year's members include:

  • Scott McMullen- During his career Coach McMullen was part of numerous conference championships, the first ever Boys Track Sectional in 2000, 9 consecutive Girls track sectionals, back to back State Track titles in 2010 & 2011 and back to back Girls Basketball state titles in 2016 & 2017.  Coach McMullen was honored for his contribution to Track and Field by being selected Track and Field Coach of the Year in 2000, 2008, 2010, and 2011.  His was also a finalist for National Coach of the Year in 2012.
 
  • Chet Kobel- Chet began his work with the Byron Football program in 1963 as a member of the chain gang.  In 1964 Chet moved to his role as the voice of the Tigers.  This year marks the 50th year that Chet has announced Byron Football games.  During Chet’s 50 years of announcing he has seen approximately 3,000 young men come through the Byron Football program and put on the orange and black each Friday night.  He has been a part of 0-9 teams, 14-0 teams and even a State Championship in 1999. 

 

  • 1995 2nd Place Baseball Team-The 1995 Baseball team was the runner-up in the 1995 Class 1A State championships.  The Tigers won 17 games in a row to put them in the state finals.  They set a school record (then) for most wins (26) and scored 4 runs in the bottom of the 7th to defeat Hersher 8-7 to advance to the State semi-finals.  In the semi-finals they defeated 29-1 Pleasant Plains by a score of 11-6 before losing to undefeated Roanoke-Benson in the State Final game. 

 

  • Dan Stanley- During Dan’s career at Byron he earned 10 state medals in Track and Field, set and re-set 10 Byron, BNC conference and Sectional records. Dan was also an all-conference football player and an academic all-state wrestler.  Dan currently holds the school records in the 100 m-10.68, 4 X 100m-43.64, and 4 X 200-1:30.3.  During Dan’s senior year he was the sectional champion in the 100, 200, 4x100 and 4x200.  At State during Dan’s senior year he earned 7th in the 100m, 7th in the 4x200, 4th in the 4x100 and 4th in the 200m.  All of Dan’s senior track accomplishments occurred after his tore his ACL during his last year of football. 

 

The Class of 2017 will be presented at our football game vs. Rockford Christian on October 13, 2017 and will be introduced at halftime of the varsity game.  The game will begin at approximately 7:00 p.m.  In addition, there will be an induction ceremony on Saturday, October 14th at 7:00 p.m. at the Byron Forest Preserve Jarrett Center for members of the Hall of Fame.  Families, friends, former teammates and coaches are invited.
