McHale Named ISBE Northwest Region Teacher of the Year, State of Illinois Finalist

We are proud to announce that Byron High School English Teacher Mrs. Angie McHale was named the Northwest Region Teacher of Year and a finalist for the Illinois Teacher of the Year through the Illinois State Board of Education Those Who Excel Program.

McHale has spent her entire career teaching in the English department at Byron High School.   She has also served the district as a speech coach, junior and senior class advisor, and department leader.

Upon hearing of her award and nomination for the Illinois Teacher of the year, McHale stated, “I am just truly thankful for all of the people who surround me and allow me to do the things that I love.”

McHale received official notification of her award by a surprise online meeting with the Illinois State Superintendent, Dr. Tony Sanders.  She and the other finalists will be recognized in May at the annual Those Who Excel & Teacher of the Year Banquet in Bloomington-Normal, Illinois.

“There isn’t a more deserving educator in the State,” stated Byron High School principal Andy Donaldson, upon hearing of McHale’s recognition.  “Mrs. McHale exemplifies passion and professionalism in everything she does for our students and our district.”

Congratulations, Mrs. McHale, on this well-deserved honor!
