The new courts were part of the 2023 summer capital projects to update and maintain several areas within the facilities. The existing tennis courts were a safety concern and the decision to transform some of them to pickleball courts came from the district’s physical education curriculum and a growing community interest in the sport.  For five consecutive years, Pickleball has been the fastest growing sport in the United States.  Pictured above are several representatives of Byron School District and Byron Park District, along with local members of the pickleball community. The last remaining summer project for the district is the completion of the Sunderman Theatre renovations at Byron High School. The district is planning another ceremony to celebrate the reopening of the updated theatre space later this year.
