Byron High School is proud to announce that it has been recognized as a top-performing institution in the 2026-2027 Best High Schools rankings released by U.S. News & World Report. Highlighting its academic excellence, the publication officially named Byron High School the number one public high school in the greater Rochelle metro area.

Out of more than 24,000 reviewed public high schools nationwide, Byron High School placed among the upper tier of institutions across the United States. Byron High School secured this honor through its exceptional graduation rates, strong state assessment proficiency metrics, and strong Advanced Placement (AP) participation rate.

"This recognition from U.S. News & World Report reflects the hard work our teachers and staff put in every day, the effort our students give, and the support we receive from our families and community,” said Byron High School principal Andy Donaldson.  "Being ranked first in our area is something we’re proud of, and we’ll keep working to help every student be ready for what comes after high school."

The annual U.S. News & World Report rankings evaluate public schools on a comprehensive set of factors, including student performance on state-required reading and math tests, graduation success, and the breadth of college-level coursework offered.
