Byron Community School District #226

Byron Board of Education Approves Extracurricular Drug Testing For Upcoming School Year, 19-20

Students who will qualify under the program are high school students who participate in sports and/or school-sponsored activities. The school district will be contracting with an outside health agency to administer the tests.

The Board reached their decision after a lengthy review, which included seeking input from district staff and a review of surrounding school district practices.   This decision now places the Byron CUSD in line with the majority of schools that make up The Big Northern Conference.  While the intention of the policy is to deter the use of drugs and to support students who may need help, students can also be disciplined under the Extracurricular Code of Conduct.

Please direct any questions pertaining to the new policy to Byron Activities Director Mr. Jim Kann.
