College Planning Resources

It is never too early to begin preparing for the transition to life after Byron High School. It is important for both parents and students to gather information on college admissions criteria, academic planning, and career exploration throughout a student's high school career. Below are two resources developed by the Byron High School Counselors to assist parents and students with this process.

Below you will find two attachments:

1.) The 2009-2010 Byron High School Post Graduate Planning Guide

BHS juniors and seniors received a copy of this guide at the beginning of the current school year. Inside you will find information on how to complete the college application process, a checklist and timeline for college planning, information on the process of applying for scholarships, and more.

2.) The Path to College: Tips and Information to Help You Get Ready for Life After Byron High School

This brief hand out provides information on college admission requirements to help underclassmen understand how their high school efforts and endeavors can help them attain their post-graduate goals.

Scholarships

Students can search for scholarships in a variety of ways:
1. Use trusted websites such as www.fastweb.com or www.schoolsoup.com. 2. Use the great school provided resource Choices Planner, located at www.bridges.com . Create a portfolio using the site ID: 0019429 and password: byron. There is a feature called "scholarship finder" that will help find scholarships for which you are eligible. This site also has other great resources such as career and interest inventories for career exploration and "school finder" to search for your ideal college match. 3. Search through the College Board Scholarship Listing book, located in the BHS Counseling Office Resource Center. 4. Contact your Colleges and Universities of choice to get a list of all of their Campus Scholarships. 5. Download the below document to see what scholarship opportunities have been made available through the BHS Counseling Department. Applications are available online where indicated. If no website is listed, then paper applications can be found in the BHS Counseling Office Resource Center.

TRANSCRIPT REQUESTS

Former graduates can make official signed transcript requests by downloading a request form found below. Current students should continue to request transcripts with the paper request forms located in the high school counseling office.
