The Blast for Excellence  Wrap Up
From Mr. Stansford

The Blast for Excellence! The whole purpose of the BLAST for Excellence was to help all students realize what they are capable of and that excellence is an attitude, not a skill. The success we have seen illustrates that every member of our student body is capable of showing this attitude of excellence. Here are some of the statistics we recognized:
• Students were recognized by teachers 908 times for attaining a top 5 grade.
• 220 Orange tiger tickets were given to students who came in for extra help.
• There were 141 raised letter grades.

Initially we were going to give away 3 prizes, however there was a tie for third place so we are going to give 2 students $50 gift cards.

3rd PLACE $50.00 gift cardsSarah Whittaker and Chris Sible
2nd PLACE$100 gift cardKim Slick
1st PLACE$330 IPAD miniRyan Pearcy

Congratulations to all of these students and thank you teachers for recognizing our students. The entire staff encourages the student body to continue with the attitude for excellence through the remainder of the year.

Illinois HS Musical Theatre Awards
From Mrs. Wygant
Ben LoveWe are honored to announce that Ben Love, 10th grader at BHS, has been chosen as a finalist in the Illinois High School Musical Theatre Awards. He was selected from talent all over the state of Illinois, and was competing against every size school and every competitive program in the state. His selection was based on an application, including a resume, letter of recommendation from his director, and a highlights reel of his performance in the show (he played Bobby Child in our Spring Musical, Crazy for You).  [Click on image to enlarge]

Only 12 males and 12 females will be competing at the state level so being a finalist is a huge honor. The top male and female proceed on to the National High School Musical Theatre Awards, which was featured in a PBS documentary series last summer. The competition takes place in 2 weeks, on Monday, April 29th.   Read more...

Important Announcement for Parents/Guardians
From Your School Nurses
Beginning with the 2012/2013 school year, ALL students entering 6th through 12th grade will be required to show proof of having received a Tdap vaccine (tetanus, diphtheria, and acellular pertussis).

This new immunization requirement (IL administrative code section 665.250(b)) has been instituted due to recent local outbreaks of pertussis or "whooping cough," a serious bacterial infection of the airway. Immunity to pertussis tends to decrease as our children reach their teen years, and this booster vaccine is necessary to protect not only our children, but our whole community.

You will receive a notice from your school nurse in the coming weeks if your child's records indicate that they may not yet have received this vaccine.

Please make appointments with your physician or the local health department early! Ogle County Health Department clinic schedules are included in the following links. [pdf]

New rules for the Health Department clinics! You MUST have your child's current immunization records faxed to the Health Department BEFORE they can schedule you for a clinic appointment. Vaccines at the health department cost $16.00.

Please contact your school nurse if you have any further questions regarding this notice, or if you need copies of your child's immunizations.
