The Byron Foundation, a not-for-profit corporation, was established in 1992- 94 to enrich and supplement the educational opportunities offered to students of the Byron School District.  The Foundation supports enrichment programs and services not funded with tax dollars.  Supplemental programs and learning experiences are essential to ensure that our students continue to succeed in a technologically complex and culturally diverse society.

Since its inception, the Foundation has granted over $104,000 to the teachers of Byron for use in their classrooms.  Funds have been granted for a variety of purposes at all three buildings:  a computer aided algebra system for a high school math class, therapeutic listening for students at Mary Morgan, and audio books for struggling readers at the middle school just to name a few.

Donations

The Byron Foundation is registered with the Internal Revenue Service to receive gifts and contributions, and to disburse funds to not-for-profit or public entities according to established financial goals and policies.  Funds are managed by an independent group of community members who form the Foundation's Board of Directors.

All Contributions are tax-exempt.  If you would like to make a contribution to the Foundation, please contact one of the members of the Board of Directors.

Fund Raising

· The Foundation hosts a number of fund raisers throughout the school year:

· School calendars- available throughout the school year at school offices.

· PE clothes- sold to middle and high school students in the spring of the year and at Back to School Night.

· Baskets- assembled in the spring and raffled off at the district Art Show in May.

· Sandwich Shoppe- varied menu - held in the lower commons at the high school during the Art Show in May.

· Aluminum Cans- "Cans for Kids" collection bin located along the north side of the high school, near the soccer field, available all year long.

All monies raised through fund raising efforts are returned to the students of the Byron School District in the form of grants awarded to teachers and administrators.

Grant Applications

Faculty members are encouraged to submit grant requests, according to a prescribed format for special services or enrichment programs. Grant requests are reviewed by the Foundation's Board of Directors in November.  Grants are made based on established funding criteria.

Funding possibilities include:

· Student enrichment programs and activities in the academic, fine art, technology and career area.

· Programs and activities that create an awareness and concern for environmental and social issues.

· Programs and activities that enhance the relationship between students and the community.

Board of Directors

We are a volunteer group of parents, professional educators, and community members who care about current and future educational opportunities for the students of Byron.  Our governance and policies are completely independent of those of the school district.
