Strategic Action #1.1: Implement and Plan for 21st Century Student Outcomes and Skills to Increase Student Achievement 1.1.1 Implement 21st Century Skills Framework. 1.1.2 Adopt curriculum that complies with Common Core State Standards and 21st Century Themes (p21.org). 1.1.3 Adopt college/career preparatory higher level standards that address (p21.org) interdisciplinary themes. 1.1.4 Set expectation for learning and innovation skills that focus on creativity, critical and inventive thinking, communication and collaboration. 1.1.5 Develop Information, Communications & Technology Literacy (ICT)/Media Literacy. 1.1.6 Incorporate technology into daily teaching and learning practices. 1.1.7 Teach social and cross-cultural skills, flexibility and adaptability, initiative and self-direction. 1.1.8 Encourage and reward productivity and accountability. 1.1.9 Develop leadership and responsibility. 1.1.10 Increase thematic problem-based/project-based learning opportunities. Strategic Action #1.3: Provide a Challenging 21st Century Curriculum and Instruction with High Expectations for All Students 1.3.1 Provide 21st Century curriculum and instruction with high expectations for all students. 1.3.2 Develop a high-functioning differentiated educational system, PreK-12. 1.3.3. Adopt 21st Century learning environments. 1.3.4 Develop a multi-modality means of identifying gifted/AT children. 1.3.5 Define scope of "gifted services" in content areas. 1.3.6 Define scope of "services" grade-level served. 1.3.7 Develop a philosophy on gifted/academically talented: Pull Out or Inclusion. 1.3.8 Develop a means of evaluating a Gifted/AT program. 1.3.9 Implement "Running Start" at BHS. 1.3.10 Increase minutes in Mathematics at MMES and BMS. 1.3.11 Provide opportunities for foreign language courses at BMS and MMES. 1.3.12 Provide summer learning opportunities for all students: remediation and enrichment. 1.3.13 Offer before and after school learning opportunities: remediation and enrichment. 1.3.14 Revisit community service policy at BHS: 1. potentially increasing hours 2. providing more flexibility in how hours are accumulated. 1.3.15 Increase opportunities for service learning in elementary and middle school. 1.3.16 Expand connections between prekindergarten and kindergarten teachers with area private and public pre-schools for screening and skill awareness purposes. 1.3.17 Offer community awareness workshops for transition periods from kindergarten through college. 1.3.18 Provide parent mentoring workshops involving the community for educationally relevant topics. Strategic Action #1.4: Provide an Appropriate and Comprehensive 21st Century Professional Development Plan Related to District-Wide Educational Initiatives 1.4.1 Provide a clear and comprehensive 21st Century professional development plan. 1.4.2 Extend professional development days during school year: early outs, late starts, or more SIP days. 1.4.3 Strengthen mentoring for new teachers. Strategic Action #1.5: Develop Fully Articulated District Nutrition and Wellness Plan 1.5.1 Improve nutritional content of school lunch offerings. 1.5.2 Provide swimming and water safety/rescue instruction for all students (K-12). 1.5.3 Increase health-related physical activities. 1.5.4 Revisit policy on allowing homemade food items to be brought into schools.
